What Reiki does
Reiki is a Japanese technique for deep relaxation and stress relief. It also creates the conditions for healing. We start from the understanding that a universal life force energy inhabits and animates all things. In other words, the origin of all things is pure consciousness.
It’s not a new concept—many cultures and traditions have a name for this energy. Scientifically, you can think of biofield energy.
Learning to work with this energy, we can begin to gently release harmful blocks to the flow of the life force within us. We also harness and channel healing power to improve our health and wellbeing – and that of others.
According to the University of Minnesota, “overlapping data from some of the stronger studies support the ability of Reiki to reduce anxiety and pain, and suggest its usefulness to induce relaxation, improve fatigue and depressive symptoms, and strengthen overall wellbeing.”
Reiki is not a replacement for medicine, treatment or other wellness supports. As a summary of research studies concluded, Reiki is a “‘complementary’ therapy that can be implemented alongside all other medical and therapeutic techniques. It is a gentle technique that is suitable for even very fragile patients.”

How Reiki Works
Distance Reiki
A practitioner channels healing by directing life force energy across a video screen or audio call.
In-person Reiki
A practitioner performs light, non-manipulative touch while the recipient is fully clothed; it may also involve no touch at all.
Reiki & our health
By the conventional medical paradigm, there are no known contraindications to Reiki practice. In fact, Reiki is practiced in many healing settings: “hospitals, cancer support centers, drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers, and in palliative care” (Journal of Evidence Based Complementary Alternative Medicine).
Reiki does not address symptoms directly. It is not disease-specific nor symptom-specific. Reiki practice balances the whole person. When we are balanced, our self-healing mechanisms engage and function at their best. As a result, many symptoms can fall away.
When we access universal consciousness through Reiki, we have a symbol for healing—whether together in the same room or simply uniting in our shared intent.
